Road Report - Mon, Feb 23rd, 5:30pm
Mon, Feb 23, 2026, 5:30pm - Hello SLE. The weather has been absolutely horrible for road maintenance. This cycle of rain then freezing then more rain has delayed spring cleanup.
The Road Crew did try to grade on Friday (2/20) and the ground was still too frozen. Now we have higher temps but lots of rain. As noted in the Feb minutes, the roads will turn to mud if we grade when there’s too much rain or melting snow.
So far, it looks like rain should stop tomorrow and we’ll then need at least one day to dry out. If that’s the case, we would be able to start grading Thurs or Friday, and continue through the weekend.
While I’d prefer to report results rather than go over plans for upcoming maintenance because weather can change everything, I want you to know we are aware the roads are rough, and we are doing everything we can to coordinate efforts, so we are ready as soon as it’s possible.
On that note, coordination also continues with the contractor of the Highway 54 construction job to negotiate + prep the asphalt distribution project in SLE. As mentioned in the Feb minutes, this will include roller + free grading.
I’ll continue to keep you posted on all of the above. Thanks again for being patient with another unusual winter. I know it’s frustrating and I wish we could get out there right now, but we’ve tried, and it’s just not possible yet.
Please drive safe, and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at roads@spiritlakeeast.org
