Asphalt & Base Project

Mon, May 19th, 9:30pm - Hello SLE. Today, we were able to get our hands on 8 truck loads of recycled asphalt.

It was distributed at both entrances and the roundabouts, which will help bc we are experiencing an even higher than usual volume of traffic with all the work trucks due to the construction on Highway 54.

We also brought in an additional 8 loads of base (rock), which was put down on CDA, Liberty, Kelso and St. Joe.

We are trying our best to get these roads in good condition before the dry summer months.

Just so everyone knows, we can’t always find recycled asphalt. It’s a challenge to secure. The batch plants buy it back.

But we’ve been working hard to get what’s been distributed so far and will continue to work every relationship we can to secure more.

This latest round was not free. But it’s absolutely worth it and we’ll continue to see the impact of both projects as it heats up and the material breaks down + binds even more.

I drove the roads today and all looks great.

Also, I spoke with one of the residents on Fernan where much of the initial free batch went. He said that he’s happy with the results and understood the way this works with the heat without explanation.

Lastly, please slow down.

Joe, our Lead Operator, had some close calls today with speeders while in the grader. Keeping it at 15mph preserves our roads, and keeps everyone safe, including our operators.

That’s it. Email roads@spiritlakeeast.org with questions and I’ll share updates online as I have them to give. Have a great night.
