Fishing In North Idaho Panhandle Region

North Idaho is the home of some of the best lake fishing in the country, boasting three of the largest natural lakes in the US. Although the North Idaho Panhandle region comprises only ten percent of Idaho, one third of the state's record fish are caught here. There are over nearly 130 lakes and 2,000 miles of rivers and streams, ranging from the 86,000-acre Lake Pend Oreille to small 1-acre lakes. North Idaho has the greatest concentration of lakes in all the western states, perfect for fishing or observing waterfowl. Trout species include:
Lake (Mackinaw),Kamloops, Rainbow, Steelhead, Cutthroat, Cutthroat/Rainbow Hybrid, Brook, Brown, Golden, Mountain Whitefish, Lake Whitefish, Grayling, Chinook (Ocean-run), Chinook (Freshwater), Atlantic Salmon, Kokanee, Coho, Splake

Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Channel Catfish, Bullhead Catfish, Flathead Catfish, Yellow Perch, Black Crappie, White Crappie, Northern Pike, Tiger Muskie, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Bluegill/Pumpkinseed, Warmouth, Green Sunfish, Walleye

Hunting in North Idaho Panhandle Region

Big game animals include deer (mule, white-tail) , Elk, Antelope, Moose, Bighorn sheep (California and Rocky Mountain), Mountain goat, Black bear, Mountain lion.

Game birds include Pheasant, Mourning Dove, Forest Grouse, Hungarian Partridge, Chukar Quail, Sage Grouse, Sharptail Grouse, and Turkey.
