Road Committee Update for May 2010 |
| |
| We recently
acquired a roller/compactor from a donor--George Whitmier who is a building
contractor/developer in the Athol area. After getting it up and running,
we got it hauled to the subdivision and have been working out most of the
bugs. It hadn't been used for a few years and was stored out-of-doors. It's
now in service and seems to be making a real difference. We try to compact
immediately after grading a stretch of road. Our hope is to extend the duration
between gradings.
Of course another element of maintaining the roads is to create a crown for better drainage. Each time we grade we're bringing more material in from the edges and building up that crown. Then, after it's compacted, more of the water ends up off the roadway instead of standing on it. As of today almost all of the subdivision roads have been graded this Spring. Most have also been rolled. We'll be touching up the more heavily traveled portions as we get more moisture from rains. SLEHA road committee member Jim Sheetz aboard the roller. Other operators
who are checked out on the roller include Todd Chaney and Darryl Alexander.
Only Jim Sheetz lives in the subdivision.
